1. Invitation to the World Peace Forum, 2006. Vancouver, BC

World Peace Forum
June 23-28, 2006
Vancouver, B.C

An Invitation…

The Spirituality and Interfaith Committee of the World Peace Forum invites YOU to join in the co-creation of this global event. Your suggestions for speakers, group presentations, arts events and celebrations etc., in addition to your own personal involvement, will help ensure that we bring both spiritual inspiration and the practice of peace into our shared work of creating a more peaceful world.

What Is It?
From June 23-28, 2006, Vancouver will be hosting the World Peace Forum – an initiative which focuses on the ways cities and human communities develop the initiatives to create a climate of peace. The event follows immediately after the United Nation’s “World Urban Forum,” also taking place in Vancouver.

Under the theme "Cities and Communities: Working Together to End War and Build a Peaceful, Just and Sustainable World," the WPF will bring together thousands of people working on peace and sustainability issues around the globe. Many perspectives will be addressed including: spiritual/faith, women, youth, first nations, city councils and public policy, peace educators and environmental initiatives.

Why Spirituality/Interfaith?
We are only too familiar with the problems and conflicts that plague our civilization. From wars and terrorism to AIDS, starvation and poverty, family breakdown and violence, our species is deeply in need of healing. Increasing numbers of people suffer from excessive stress, addiction. The wanton alienation from our home planet is creating dire ecological implications. Yet while we share this tragic reality, we also share a universal hope for peace.

The Spirituality and Interfaith contribution to the World Peace Forum is about bringing peace to the world from the inside out. Our focus is on healing these divisions within ourselves, between each other and in our world. As the great spiritual activist Gandhi counseled, “We must be the change we seek to make.”

Whatever our spiritual path or belief, we know there is a deeper wisdom that connects all life. That spirit lives within all of us and can be drawn upon to heal our alienation and conflict.

We Want Your Proposals!
Do you have ideas for speakers and activities that could be part of the programming? Who are the people, projects and organizations that are actively doing this healing-and-peace-making work who should be invited to participate? Please let us know. If you have a project, practice or event to propose, please complete the following application and submit your proposal as soon as possible.

Proposal Criteria
We are seeking speakers, programs, workshops or events that will:

- deepen our sacred interconnection with all humanity and life forms on this planet
- share successful strategies of peace making and conflict resolution with others
- share a spiritual practice that increases our connection with Spirit, however recognized, and our compassion for others
- deepen the peace – justice – sustainability connection
- increase interfaith communication and cooperation.

A Programming Committee will decide on which proposals best meet these criteria and others, such as diversity, experience and ability to successfully present their proposed activity.

Thank you for helping us bring spirit/faith into the World Peace Forum.

Be in peace!
